A thug who swore at police and made homophobic slurs before launching his underwear at one of them blamed his moment of madness on the stress of a friend’s death.
Stuart Cook was stopped by police to be searched in King Street, Aberdeen, but lost his temper, calling police ‘pigs’ among other offensive terms.
Officers arrested him for his behaviour, but a struggle ensued before they got him back to Kittybrewster police station.
When the 26-year-old removed his clothes for a strip search, he threw his boxer shorts in the face of one of the officers. He had been bailed just two days before April 11, the date the offences took place.
Fiscal depute Marie Irvine told Aberdeen Sheriff Court: “Police officers were on mobile patrol. In light of intelligence relating to another matter, they turned their police vehicle around and attempted to talk to the male.
“He began to talk in an aggressive manner towards them. They detained him and performed a search. They arrested him, and due to the aggressive behaviour more officers were sought for support.
“The accused was led to the police vehicle, but he tensed up his body. He was restrained on the ground, but continued to shout and swear. He said he would head butt an officer as soon as the opportunity presented itself.
“The accused was then subjected to a strip search. Upon receiving instructions, he threw his boxer shorts in the face of a constable.”
Cook, of Ann Street, Stonehaven, pleaded guilty to breaching the peace, resisting police officers and throwing clothing at an officer.
Defence agent Ian McGregor said: “He accepts his actions were not appropriate. He had been suffering with post-traumatic stress disorder. In February this year his best friend drowned in an accident in Gambia.”
Sheriff Malcolm Garden told Cook his behaviour was “quite unacceptable” and fined him a total of £480.
