A man had to be taken to hospital yesterday after he was hit by a bus in Aberdeen city centre.
The accident happened around 8.40am yesterday on Holburn Street just beyond its junction with Union Street.
A bus, which is operated by First Aberdeen, collided with the man in his 50s just after the Tesco Express.
The police and the ambulance service attended the scene which caused significant delays to motorists.
After paramedics treated the victim at the scene he was then taken by ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (ARI).
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 8.42am yesterday to attend a road traffic collision on Union Street.
“We dispatched one ambulance and a paramedic response unit to the scene.
“One male patient in his fifties was taken to ARI.”
A First Aberdeen spokesperson said: “Our thoughts are with those affected by yesterday morning’s incident.
“First Aberdeen can confirm that one of our vehicles was in collision with a pedestrian at the junction of Union Street and Holburn Street in Aberdeen.
“We are assisting police with their investigation into the incident.”
James McEwen, who works at McGinty’s Bar on Union Street, described the scene as he arrived at work.
He said: “When I turned up there was an ambulance and a police car and the bus was sitting empty.
“I wondered what had happened because there did not appear to be a collision but then I saw the man lying on the pavement outside Tesco.
“We just have to hope that he is ok and that he makes a full recovery.”
Another eyewitness, who did not wish to be named, revealed that she was initially unsure about what had happened.
She added: “At first all I could see was people crowded around something in the road and I didn’t know what it had happened but then I saw there was somebody lying on the road.
“It’s a really terrible thing to happen and I hope the man is all right.”
