Aberdeen Greens have called for early elections to end the political crisis which is gripping Aberdeen City Council.
With Labour members now suspended from the Labour Party, Aberdeen Greens have called into question their mandate to form an administration.
Branch co-convener and former candidate for the George Street & Harbour ward, Guy Ingerson, said: “It is clear that the councillors who formerly belonged to the Labour party have betrayed their members and voters.
“With Aberdeen in the grip of an economic crisis, councillors should focus on helping those in need and doing what’s best for the city. Instead, the local Labour group have put power before people and pay packets before principles.
“This is an intolerable situation and a democratic outrage for Labour voters. With this in mind, we call for fresh elections immediately.
“Let the people of Aberdeen decide if they want this shambolic administration to continue for another five years.”
Fellow co-convener, Myshele Haywood, added: “These nine councillors are now putting their personal grudges above what’s best for the city – and above explicit instructions from their party executive. It’s unbelievable.
The Greens failed to win any council wards in the May 4 elections.
