Residents shocked as police return to Aberdeen street

Residents on an Aberdeen street were in shock last night as police carried out a search warrant on a property.

Three police vans were in attendance at a tenement building on Summerhill Drive in the Granite City as officers spent around an hour carrying out the search.

Officers arrived on street around 6.30pm last night and were seen dressed in riot gear.

Sniffer dogs were also used by police as they carried out their inquiries.

This came just a day after Summerhill Drive was cordoned off by police as they investigated a potential assault that took place in the early hours of Sunday morning.

One man who lives nearby, and did not wish to be named, said that the heavy police presence in the area over recent days means that he is scared to let his young son go outside to ride his bike in case something happens to him.

The 36 year old said: “I’m very worried about what is going on in the area because over the last few days there seems to have been a large police presence in the area.

“This latest incident has happened just a day after they were here for another incident so it’s very concerning for me and it’s not nice when you look out the window and see police everywhere.

“I am also worried that something will happen to my five year old son.

“He likes to go outside to run around and ride his bike but now I’m scared to let him go outside in case he gets caught up in something.

“When we moved to the area six months ago it was not like this and that was part of the reason that we moved in because it was a nice quiet area to live.”

Another man who did not wish to be named remarked that it was “shocking” to see such a strong police presence in what he described as a “nice” area.

He said: “It’s very strange to see three police vans sitting in the street.

“This is a nice area and normally we don’t see anything like this.

“It’s also quite shocking to see because it makes you wonder what is going on.”
