Trial date set for murder of Aberdeen restaurant boss almost four decades ago

The trial of a man accused of the murder of an restaurant boss in Aberdeen almost four decades ago has been set for October.

Kazi Ahmad’s body was found in a property in Rosemount Viaduct in October 1978 leading to a police investigation the length and breadth of the country.

Riasat Khan is accused of the killing.

He was arrested in Birmingham last year and made two private appearances at Aberdeen Sheriff Court.

Prosecutors allege the 63-year-old tied his victim’s hands behind his back and covered his head with an item of clothing.

He is accused of striking him on the neck and body with a knife as well as stealing money from him.

Khan is also alleged to have stolen a kitchen knife from the Raj Dulal restaurant in Aberdeen on the same day.

Man arrested in connection with Aberdeen death almost 40 years ago

He appeared in Glasgow High Court yesterday where he pleaded not guilty.

Justice Lady Rae set a trial date of October 23 at Edinburgh High Court and released Khan on bail.
