An Aberdeen cafe owner has said “confused” residents are behind a string of objections to an extension – that was completed four years ago.
The Corner Tree Cafe on Desswood Place has submitted a retrospective application for permission to extend its floor space.
Eight letters of objection have been received by Aberdeen City Council, meaning it must now be debated at next week’s planning committee.
The letters raise fears of an increase in noise levels, a loss of privacy, more traffic and odour among other issues.
Last night cafe owner Martin McAuley said: “We bought the place a year ago and the extension had already been in place for a number of years.
“It is in a residential area so I think there has maybe been some confusion in some quarters with people thinking we are extending it further.
“We have a great relationship with most of our neighbours and are happy to explain the plans if anyone is a bit confused.”
Council officers have recommended that councillors approve the plans with conditions attached to its operating hours.
A report to next week’s planning committee reads: “Subject to conditions limiting the hours of operation and implementation of the proposed mitigation measure, being a suspended ceiling with necessary acoustic insulation, the proposed retrospective part change of use complies with Local Development Policy H1- Residential Areas and Policy T5- Noise in that the proposal would have no significant detrimental impact on residential amenity.”
