Dons fans urged to come forward as major air, land and sea search continues for missing woman

Dons supporters have been urged to come forward amid growing concerns for a missing Aberdeen woman.

Nusrat Jahan was last seen at her home in the Seaton area at around 10.30pm on Thursday night.

The 34-year-old said she planned to head towards the beach, around the same time thousands of Aberdeen fans were heading home from the side’s third qualifying round tie against Apollon Limassol.

Local Area Commander Chief Inspector Kevin Wallace said: “We are growing increasingly concerned for Nusrat’s safety and wellbeing and I must urge anyone with information about her whereabouts to get in touch as soon as possible.

“She suggested to a friend that she planned on heading in the direction of the beach. The area would have become increasingly busy as the match at Pittodrie ended, so I would ask anyone who remembers seeing a woman matching Nusrat’s description to let us know. It could be crucial as we piece together her movements over the last 12 hours.”

Late on Thursday night, police launched a major air, land and sea search.

Officers were given specialist assistance from operational support divisions including the dog unit and Police Scotland helicopter.

They were also joined by members of Aberdeen’s all-weather and inshore lifeboats, along with coastguard rescue teams and a search helicopter from Inverness.

The lifeboats searched the coastline from the Bay of Nigg to the River Don, with units also stationed close inshore and around 400m offshore before being called down at around 4am on Friday morning.

Speaking yesterday, Ch Insp Wallace refused to rule out the possibility Ms Jahan could be elsewhere in the city and urged any member of the public to get in touch if they have information that could help.

He added: “Nusrat is described as being around 5ft 3 and of a slim build. When last seen she may have been wearing a black cardigan and flowery top.

“I would also appeal directly to Nusrat if she sees this appeal to please let us know you are safe and well by calling 101.”

A CCTV image of her last confirmed sighting was also issued to the public.

Ch Insp Wallace added: “This is the last confirmed sighting we have of Nusrat before she was reported missing last night and it may well be that she is wearing the same clothing.

“Once again I would appeal to anyone with information about her whereabouts to get in touch as soon as possible.”
