A drink-driver who crashed into a sign has been banned from the roads.
Fish merchant Lee Richards had been at a party and left believing he was not too drunk.
But the following day he got up and met with a friend for a game of golf at the Craibstone Golf Club, where he drank two larger shandies before driving towards his companion’s home in Bucksburn.
On the way there he crashed into a sign on Hopetoun Grange.
Police were called to the scene, and noticing the 30-year-old smelt strongly of alcohol, gave him a breath test. It showed he had 59 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 22mcg.
Richards, of Newburgh Drive, Bridge of Don, admitted the drink-driving charge when he appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday. The incident happened on July 29 at about 3.30pm.
His solicitor, Gregor Kelly, urged the court to be lenient and explained a lengthy disqualification would impact his family life.
He said: “He is the carer for his six-month old son and three-and-a-half-year old step daughter.
“He works as a fish merchant and has to be in work at 5am, there is no public transport.”
He added: “He thought all the alcohol had gone out of his system from the night before.”
Sheriff Morag Mclaughlin banned him for 12 months, butsaid if he completed the drink-driving rehabilitation scheme the disqualification would be lifted three months early. She also fined him £500.
