A man has been cut free from a vehicle following a crash on an Aberdeenshire road.

Firefighters were called to the scene on an an unclassified road near Kinnadie and Stuartfield shortly after 7.35am today.

The man is understood to have been driving a white Vauxhall Corsa when it collided with a white Renault Van.

Two units from Ellon and Maud were sent to the scene with hydraulic cutting units and specialist equipment was also used.

Fire crews removed the roof off the Corsa in order to free the man – who has not yet been named – before paramedics treated him for his injuries.

He was later taken by ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, with firefighters leaving the scene at around 8.50am.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland was unable to say what injuries the man had suffered but said they are not believed to be life threatening.

She added: “Both vehicles have been removed from the road and the road has fully reopened.”

The driver of the van was able to escape the vehicle unaided and is not believed to have sustained any injury in the crash.

The road remained blocked for some time but reopened at around 9.45am.

Motorists have been warned of potential further delays in the area while investigations are carried out.
