North-east trio to run 5k a day for a month to raise funds for brain tumour charity

Fraser Strachan, sister Rebecca, and fiancee Anna Patterson will be raising money for the Brain Tumour Charity.

A group of north-east runners will go the extra mile to raise funds for a charity close to their hearts.

Fraser Strachan, his fiancee Anna Patterson and his sister Rebecca will take part in a 5k a day challenge for 30 days in support of The Brain Tumour Charity.

The trio – who live in Auchleven and Lonmay –  were inspired to push themselves to the limit after Mr Strachan’s father Colin was diagnosed with a brain tumour last May.

Doctors discovered that he had grade four glioblastoma after he fell ill while working as a production chemist for Shell out in Iraq.

He has since undergone two rounds of surgery and is now recovering at home in Lonmay following his most recent operation just prior to Christmas.

Mr Strachan jun will be doing much of the challenge alongside Miss Patterson, who is originally from Lossiemouth, at their local gym in the Garioch Sports Centre, Inverurie.

However, the 27-year-old will have to complete the final days offshore, where he works as a production technician.

His sister meanwhile will be doing her bit at a Fraserburgh gym.

He said: “This is the first fundraising we have done and it just seems the right charity for us to pick.

“We know there’s a lot of people out there who will be in the same position as my dad and we wanted to give something back.

“We’re not runners by any stretch of the imagination but we all keep fit and go to the gym.”

The challenge begins on January 31 and finishes on March 1.
