A man has been fined for taking a car without permission and driving it while disqualified.
Alexander Watt got a hold of his friend’s spare car keys and took off in the vehicle which he found parked on Balnagask Road.
He was then spotted by police at a pedestrian crossing on South Silver Street when he went through a red light.
The 36–year-old was pulled over by officers and found to have been disqualified from driving in November 2013.
Watt confessed to taking the car without permission and driving without insurance or a licence and going through a red during the incident on September 4 last year.
He appeared in Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday to be sentenced.
Representing him, defence agent Iain Hingston said it was “simply crass stupidity.”
He added: “He knew perfectly well he should not have done it.”
Sheriff Andrew Miller fined Watt, of Balnagask Avenue, £180 and endorsed any future licence he will obtain with six penalty points.
