A north-east MSP unveiled the opening of a new £90,000 activity hall at a residential school in the area yesterday.

Linn Moor in Peterculter, which is supported by the VSA, provides specialist care to children and young adults from all over Scotland with autism and a range of other additional support needs.

The school recently decided to remove its onsite pool so that students could attend community pools in the area.

In its place it has erected a multi-purpose activity hall which allows people to take part in a huge range of activities including forming a cinema club, a youth club, playing tennis and running a tuck shop.

The new A.G. Bain Activity Hall was unveiled yesterday by Maureen Watt, the Scottish Government minister for mental health and local MSP.

She said at the event: “It’s an honour, Linn Moor has long been an outstanding part of the community.

“It’s very important to discover the abilities that autistic people have so we can find a job that they are suited to.”

The hall was named after the A.G. Bain Trust, which as well as providing a majority of the funding has contributed generously to the VSA over many years.

John Booth, the deputy chief executive of charity, thanked the trust for its support.

He said: “For more than 30 years the A.G.Bain Trust has sported the work of the charity and helped us achieve our aims of supporting those with additional support needs.

“The naming of the hall is a thank you to them.”
