TV crews roll in for Granite City auction

A Glasgow Central Station destination board and a painting of former Aberdeen Lord Provost Sir David Stewart are among the items to be auctioned off.
A Glasgow Central Station destination board and a painting of former Aberdeen Lord Provost Sir David Stewart are among the items to be auctioned off.

Camera crews will descend on Aberdeen this week to film items going under the hammer for a flagship television programme.

John Milne Auctioneers will feature in an upcoming episode of BBC One’s Antiques Road Trip, starring experts Margie Cooper and Charles Hanson who will enter several lots for the event.

The pair have been travelling across the country in search of unusual and rare finds, competing to see who can make the most money with them at auction.

Sandy Milne, one of the partners at John Milne Auctioneers, said: “There is always a real buzz in the saleroom when Antiques Road Trip visits.

“It’s a hugely popular show amongst our customers and the team at John Milne Auctioneers are very pleased to be welcoming the programme back as we mark our 150th year in business.”

More than 300 sets of items will be sold off at the auction house from 10am Wednesday including furniture, china, jewellery and ornaments.

Etchings and oil paintings of Aberdeen landmarks by artists such as Jackson Simpson and Eric Auld will feature, and keen bidding is expected on a pair of brass-handled late 19th century granite curling stones

A large painting of former Aberdeen Lord Provost Sir David Stewart, an 85-piece dinner set bearing the Lumsden family armorial crest and a taxidermy sawfish will also be auctioned.

Mr Milne added: “From Jaguar and Rolls Royce car bonnet mascots and some lovely jewellery, to antique glassware and brass-ended bedsteads, there is a great selection among the 320 lots.

“The large portraits of Sir David Stewart and his family are impressive pieces, and along with the other items connected to them they present a fascinating snapshot into the life of this well respected Aberdeen family.

“Of note is the fact that Sir David was Lord Provost when my great-grandfather diversified his business and began organising auctions in 1893.”

The lots can be viewed online at johnmilne-auctioneers.com or in the saleroom between 10am and 6pm tomorrow.

All of the 320 lots will go under the hammer from 10am on Wednesday.
