Young movie enthusiasts are preparing to showcase some hidden cinematic gems as they stage their own film festival in Aberdeen.
Students from Robert Gordon University’s film society are behind the free event, which takes place at the Belmont Filmhouse on Sunday and Monday.
More than 40 short films from across the world have been selected for the programme and a judging panel will announce the winning effort at the end.
Organisers say the screening sessions, which will each run for about 90 minutes from 3.30pm on Sunday and 5.45pm on Monday, will offer Aberdeen residents a different type of cinema experience.
Film society secretary, Ryan Johnson, said: “We chose the movies through Film Freeway, an online database which is used by some of the world’s most important festivals to select movies.
“We watched all of those being screened and we will announce a best student film and best overall film.
“The idea is to show that great films are being made outwith Hollywood and we hope everyone will have a great time seeing them.
“These are different films that people won’t otherwise be able to see on the big screen.”
The short films range from three to 14 minutes in length, with several being crafted by students.
Italian, German, Russian, American and Israeli productions will all be featured.
Following the success of the society’s first film festival last year, the group was presented the volunteering project of the year prize at the university’s student achievement awards.
