Officers in the north-east are reminding members of the public to ensure their properties and valuables are locked and secure at all times following a number of suspicious incidents.

Thieves in Aberdeen have been looking for insecure properties to target, including two at North Deeside Road yesterday evening while the owners were at home.

Between the properties, numerous keys were reported stolen aswell as personal and electrical goods.

Efforts are also ongoing to trace a metallic silver Mitsubishi Barbarian L200 (reg. no SW64 AXJ) with distinctive black alloy wheels which was was reported stolen from the Beechgrove Terrace area of Aberdeen last week between 10.30pm on April 5 and 4.30am on April 6.

Golfing equipment worth a low four figure sum was also taken.

Detective Sergeant Andrew Machray said: “Opportunistic crimes don’t have to be complicated – the thieves involved can simply try door handles in the hope of finding one unlocked and get away with your valuables quickly and easily before you have the chance to notice.

“When we see the emotional and financial impact these crimes have on people it can be extremely frustrating knowing that it could have been avoided.

“You also run the risk of losing out on any insurance payment given that your house or vehicle has been left open and insecure. A couple of minutes of ensuring all your doors are locked is all it can take to avoid any hassle and heartbreak further down the line.”

If you have information in connection with the suspicious incidents at North Deeside Road please contact us quoting ref. no. 4553 of April 8. In relation to the incident at Beechgrove Terrace, please quote ref. no. 0522 of April 6.
