VIDEO: Man hit by HGV on busy Aberdeen road dies in hospital

A pedestrian has died after he was struck by a lorry on a busy Aberdeen road yesterday evening.

Police, fire and ambulance teams were called to the scene of the incident on Wellington Road, close to the junction with Abbotswell Road, shortly after 5.10pm.

The 54-year-old man who was involved in the crash was rushed to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary by ambulance teams, however he died from his injuries.

The road was closed in both directions while the emergency services attended the scene for a number of hours following the incident.

Man dies after being hit by a lorry in Aberdeen

No heavy goods vehicles could be seen at the location of the incident on Wellington road yesterday evening as the investigation was being carried out, however a police spokesman said the lorry involved in the crash has been located.

The spokesman added last night that nobody had been charged.

Police have now launched an investigation into the incident, and have appealed for anyone who witnessed it to phone them on 101.

A police spokesman said yesterday evening: “Police Scotland are currently investigating a road traffic collision that occurred at around 5.10pm today on Wellington Road, near to Abbotswell Road, Aberdeen, which involved a heavy goods vehicle and a pedestrian.

“As a result, the 54-year-old male was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and has sadly passed away from his injuries.

“Police are appealing for witnesses into the circumstances and would urge anyone with information that would aid ongoing inquiries to contact Police Scotland on 101.”

Ward councillor Alan Donnelly said: “I was very worried when I found out that both carriageways had been closed.

“This is a tragic incident on a very busy road, and my condolences go out to the family of this poor man.

“Anyone who saw this tragic incident should phone the police, so investigators can find out what happened here.”
