‘Sexual predator’ spared jail for exposing himself to woman in Aberdeen

A “sexual predator” has been spared jail after exposing himself to a woman through his window.

Ricky Taylor was found guilty of carrying out the sex act in front of the window at a property on Gaitside Drive, Aberdeen, while a woman was walking past several times in October and November last year,

The 25-year-old returned to Aberdeen Sheriff Court to be sentenced yesterday.

The court heard Taylor – who has a previous conviction for an assault with an attempt to rape – still denies the offence.

Defence agent Lynn Bentley asked for him to be spared jail.

She said: “There is a stark choice.

“If he is simply sentenced to imprisonment none of the underlying problems can be dealt with.”

Sheriff Sukhwinder Gill decided to put him on a three-year supervision order, with a curfew for nine months meaning he cannot leave his home between 7.30pm and 5.30pm. He must also carry out 300 hours of unpaid work and take part in the Moving Forward Making Changes Programme.

The sheriff said: “In my view you are a sexual predator and you have a previous conviction from 2014 for another sexual offence.

“You appear to have a very protective family who cannot see the wood from the trees as far as I am concerned.

“I have considered very carefully a custodial sentence, my concern is that you will serve the sentence, be let out and still have the same sexual tendencies.”

Taylor, of Heathryfold Circle in Aberdeen, was previously jailed for 15 months for admitting pouncing on a woman in a seclured spot.

In October 2012, he was driving a woman home when he took her to a spot on Mugiemoss Road before pulling the car over, pinning her down and struggling with her.

The woman repeatedly told him to stop and restrained him until he stopped.
