A West End star who rose to fame on a TV singing contest has been announced as one of the stars of this year’s pantomime at His Majesty’s Theatre in Aberdeen.
Lee Mead will play the dashing Prince in Snow White alongside regular crowd favourites Alan McHugh and Jordan Young.
The show will begin its run on Saturday December 1 and the actor – currently a series regular in Holby City – is already relishing the chance to perform in front of the north-east’s “fantastic audiences”.
He said: “I’m really looking forward to coming to a theatre that’s renowned for having such fantastic audiences and a city that I’m very much looking forward to exploring over Christmas.
“I can’t wait to get started.”
The star won the BBC talent show Any Dream Will Do in 2007, securing the title part in a run of Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
Mr McHugh, who is also writing the show, will play Nurse Nellie MacDuff as he takes to the boards in Aberdeen for a 14th year while Mr Young, who audiences will recognise from Scot Squad and River City, will play Muddles.
The chief executive of Aberdeen Performing Arts, Jane Spiers, said: “Mr Mead will bring a wealth of experience and star quality to the stage and it will be a joy to see him alongside the much-loved comedy dream team of Jordan and Alan.”
