Winds up to 70 mph are expected across north and north-east as the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning.
The Met Office has warned of potential power cuts and damage to buildings such as tiles blowing off roofs as gust up to 70 mph are batter parts of Scotland.
Heavy rain will accompany the wind with the highest rainfall totals over parts of western Scotland. Winds should gradually ease during Thursday afternoon.
There is a small chance of longer journey times or cancellations as road, rail, air and ferry services are affected by the abrupt weather.

The Met Office has also warned of potential injuries and danger from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads, properties and from flying debris.
