Aberdeen sex offender jailed for more than four years

Edinburgh High Court

A sex offender who had intercourse with a woman in the presence of a 10-year-old boy was jailed for four and a half years.

Ryan Leisk began preying on children while he was still a teenager and was found with indecent pictures of youngsters after police arrested him in 2015.

A judge told the 32-year-old at the High Court in Edinburgh: “You now stand convicted of serious offences.”

Lord Kinclaven said: “As I think you appreciate there is no alternative to a custodial sentence.”

The judge said that he bore in mind that over the child pornography offences “a very limited number of images” were involved and that Leisk was acquitted of the most serious charges he originally faced following an earlier trial.

Defence counsel Shelagh McCall QC said Leisk was “realistic” and understood a prison sentence would follow from the jury’s verdicts.

She said he was willing to undertake any offender programmes that were identified as suitable for him.

Miss McCall said that in Leisk’s case 12 unique indecent images of children were found whereas in other cases tens of thousands of pictures were discovered.

Leisk targeted his first victim when he was aged 14, molesting a girl.

She told the High Court in Edinburgh: “I know it happened on a few occasions. I can’t remember the period of time it went on for.”

Leisk began molesting a second girl when he was 17, exposing himself and carrying out sex acts.

He also called the boy into a room and got him to watch as he began carrying out a sex act on himself and on the woman before having intercourse with her in the final incident.

He was detained after the boy and a girl went to their mother and police were contacted.

Police recovered child porn pictures from a phone and computer and discovered that some had been shared.

Messages were also sent by Leisk encouraging the woman to take part in sexual activity in front of the boy.

In one response the woman said: “I keep thinking this is what paedophiles do.”

Leisk, formerly of Cherry Road, Aberdeen, had earlier denied a string of charges during a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh.

He was found guilty of two offences of indecency against girls committed between 2000 and 2004 and engaging in sexual activity with the woman when the boy was there after calling him into a room in 2015.

The crimes occurred at houses in Aberdeen and in an Aberdeenshire village.

He admitted offences of possessing and showing or distributing indecent photos of children between December 2014 and October 2015.

He was also convicted of breaching bail.

He was acquitted on not proven verdicts of two further charges of indecency and sexual assault involving another underage girl.

Leisk was placed on the sex offenders’ register.
