A man in his 50s has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following an alleged assault involving a car.
Police were called to the scene of the incident on Oldmeldrum Road in Bucksburn on Wednesday evening after reports a man had been struck by a white Skoda Octavia at around 7.30pm, close to the Staging Post pub.
Ambulance teams rushed the man to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, where he was still being treated yesterday evening.
Following the incident, the car, which sustained damage to its right-hand side, came to a stop a short distance away on the central reservation of the A947 Bucksburn to Dyce road, shortly north of the Mcdonalds roundabout.
The road was shut at the roundabout for several hours to enable police investigators to examine the scene, but it was reopened at around 4am yesterday.
A 34-year-old man has been arrested in connection to the incident and is currently assisting police officers with their inquiries.
Detective Inspector Stewart Drummond said a number of people were around during the time of the alleged serious assault and appealed for anyone with information to come forward to help the police determine what happened.
He said: The area would have been busy at the time and we are urging anyone who was around to contact us.
“We have spoken to a number of people so far and will continue with this today.
“I’d like to thank the public for their patience with the road closure while we carried out the necessary inquiries.”
Bucksburn, Dyce and Danestone councillor Barney Crockett, the Lord Provost of Aberdeen, said he drove past the incident on Wednesday evening and asked for anyone who saw what happened to contact the police.
Mr Crockett said: “I had tried to get along the road, but it was closed and there seemed to be a lot of emergency services at the scene.
“I sincerely hope the man who has been injured has a successful recovery and would appeal for anybody who may have witnessed what took place to phone the authorities.
“I think we’ve got a good reputation in this area for supporting the police, so I would hope if anyone has information that could help the investigators they would call the police.”
