Cove Rangers midfielder Jordon Brown has been given the all-clear to be discharged from hospital after a head injury during their friendly with Aberdeen.

Brown was taken to hospital after a 50th minute collision with Andrew Considine and received treatment on the pitch for 30 minutes before being taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

The game was abandoned with the score at 2-1 to Aberdeen, on what was the opening day of Cove’s new Balmoral Stadium.

In a statement issued on Sunday evening, the Highland League champions confirmed Brown’s scans had come back all-clear and he could be discharged from hospital.

A Cove statement read: “As has been reported by the media today, our opening game at Balmoral Stadium against Aberdeen FC was overshadowed by a serious looking injury to Cove Rangers player Jordon Brown.

“Jordon suffered a head injury as a result of an accidental clash of heads with Aberdeen FC player Andrew Considine, in the 50th minute of today’s game.

“The club would like to report that Jordon has been assessed by the medical team at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, his scans are all clear and he will be discharged this evening and monitored over a further 48-hour period.

“We’d like to thank the medical staff from both Cove and Aberdeen FC, police and ambulance crew who attended to Jordon in a speedy manner. This has undoubtedly led to the best possible outcome.

“Everyone at Cove Rangers wishes Jordon all the very best as he continues his way towards a full recovery.”

Medical staff from both teams treated Brown on the field and an ambulance was called. Treatment was signalled for immediately by referee Alex Shepherd when Brown landed.

After a brief conversation between Shepherd, Cove manager John Sheran and his counterpart Derek McInnes, the game was abandoned on 57 minutes.

His family, including brother Jason who plays for Peterhead, were in attendance at the game. It is understood Brown was conscious when he was taken into the ambulance.

The 25-year-old former Dons player joined the Highland League champions in the summer from Peterhead.
