A ladies’ lunch has raised more than £60,000 for a north-east children’s charity.

Hospice provider Chas hosted the sixth annual event at the Marcliffe Hotel last week, with long-time supporter Michelle McManus entertaining the crowds with chat and music.

A live auction was also held with prizes including a day with the Queen’s pony, a luxury lodge stay and a golf session at Turnberry.

All of the £61,500 raised during the lunch will be spent on offering palliative care for youngsters with life-shortening conditions either in their family home or local hospital, or at dedicated facilities in Kinross and Balloch.

Chas events co-ordinator Diane Alton said: “Our Aberdeen ladies are historically fantastic supporters of Chas, always getting fully behind our fundraising efforts and this year was no exception.

“We’re so grateful for their generosity.

“Without them, we couldn’t raise the vital funds needed to provide these hospice services, which children and families across Scotland rely so heavily on.”

She added: “Three children die of a life-shortening condition every week in Scotland, and at present, we’re only reaching one of those families.

“Our ambition is to reach every single one and offer our services and events like the Aberdeen Ladies Lunch are so important in helping us raise awareness of our work.”
