More than a dozen Aberdeen playparks will be spruced up in the coming months after being awarded a share of £500,000.

Work will be carried out in a total of 14 parks around the city, bringing the total of refurbished sites to about 100 since the project began five years ago.

The sites that are earmarked for development for 2018/19 have been split into two different phases – the first are small scale projects that involve replacing equipment on a like-for-like basis. The second phase will involve more work.

The phase one playparks include Seaton Avenue South (as part of the Seaton Backies project), Balgownie Drive, Ashwood Park, Broaddykes Drive, Wellside Wynd, and at Ferryhill Community Centre.

The phase two sites are larger projects and include Regent Walk, Gallowgate, Middle Brae, Cruikshank Crescent, Eric Hendrie Park, Rosemount Square, and Powis Crescent.

Public consultations will be held on the plans.

For Regent Walk, the event will be held at Seaton Community Centre today, from 10am-12pm, and 4.30pm to 6pm.

Another will be held for the Gallowgate development on Thursday, at Gallowgate Community Room, from 9.30am to 12.30pm.

Next week, there will be the chance to comment on the Middle Brae and Cruickshank Crescent Plans next Monday at the Beacon Community Centre, from 9.30am-12.30pm.

The Eric Hendrie Park proposals will be on shown at Mastrick Library next Tuesday, from 1.30pm to 4pm, and Rosemount Square at the Rosemount Education Centre next Wednesday, from 10am-3pm.

Council regeneration spokesman Ross Grant said: “We are delighted to once again have a programme of refurbishments to our playparks as this has been a fantastic project which has benefited communities all around the city.”
