ScotRail has warned of the dangers of trespassing after a man brazenly crossed the tracks at Kirkcaldy Railway Station.
The man jumped down from platform two and crossed the railway before climbing up to platform one and entered the indoor waiting area.
He appeared to say the words “Aberdonian, needing the toilet” as he made his way into the station building.
A short time later, he emerged from the building and on to platform one. He walked to the edge of the platform, jumped down to the tracks and crossed the railway for the second time, before clambering back to platform two and leaving through the door to the car park.
It happened at around 5.30pm on Tuesday, when the platform was busy.
One woman was seen telling a young boy: “Don’t copy that.”
ScotRail confirmed the man’s actions had caused some disruption to services.
A ScotRail spokesperson said: “Some services through Fife were disrupted last night due to a trespasser on the line at around 5.30pm.
“We take this opportunity to remind people not to trespass anywhere on the railway as they put themselves and others at risk of serious injury.”
Railway operator Network Rail said anyone crossing the tracks illegally is risking death.
A Network Rail spokesperson added: “Ours is one of the safest railways in Europe, but we still see too many people trespassing.
“Taking a shortcut across the tracks is not only illegal it is also very dangerous and can result in serious life-changing injuries or death if you are struck by a train.”
