Cairngorm National Park Authority seeks new board members

Cairngorm National Park Authority is looking for new members to stand for election to its board in March 2019.

Park residents elect five members to the CNPA board to guide the work of the park authority in three main areas: conservation, visitor experience and rural development.

The board also helps the organisation make strategic decisions on how it contributes to delivering the aims of the Cairngorms National Park, and members act as ambassadors representing the park and the CNPA.

They attend a variety of board and committee meetings, such as planning and finance, and are paid for their services.

Board convener Xander McDade said: “The Cairngorms National Park is a truly special place. We have 18,000 people here, living alongside rare species, and we have the highest and most massive mountain range in the UK and the biggest native forests.

“Our rivers and lochs are pristine and with outstanding recreational experiences, it’s no wonder it is a holiday destination for over 1.8 million visitors.

“We are keen to see candidates coming forward who can demonstrate a passion for the Cairngorms National Park across all different sectors and interests.

“It is a varied and rewarding role and I would encourage anyone who has the two or three days a month to commit to the park to stand as a candidate.”

Highland Council is managing the CPNA elections and information for candidates can be found on its website. Information about the work of the park authority and being a board member is on the website or call 01479 873535.
