Police searching for missing teenager Liam Smith are hoping to “jog the memories” of anyone who might have seen him as there have been no confirmed sightings of him since the weekend.

Liam has not been spotted since Saturday whenhe was filmed entering Union Square shopping centre in Aberdeen, before boarding a bus bound for Deeside.

The 16-year-old Westhill Academy pupil who is “very tall” and walks in a distinctive manner –  may have alighted the 202 Stagecoach bus in Banchory – as it is understood he bought a ticket for Raemoir Road.

Police have focused on this area since Tuesday and last night issued pictures of the backpack Liam was carrying when he went missing – in the hope somebody will remember seeing him.

Chief inspector Martin Mackay said: “Liam is very tall – around 6ft4 – and walks in a distinctive way, so we have been asking for members of the public to get in touch if they remember seeing a young male matching his description.

“I hope that this image of Liam’s bag assists and ask anyone who has spotted a teenager with a similar backpack  to get in touch.

“Likewise, if anyone finds this bag, please contact the police as soon as possible.”

Liam was wearing a dark top, blue jeans, Mike Air Max trainers and he was carrying a camouflage North Face backpack which is green and black coloured.

Officers are also carrying out door-to-door inquiries in the area and are appealing for CCTV footage or possible sightings of the boy.

Chief inspector Mackay added: “I would urge anyone who hasn’t yet spoken to the Police to get in touch if you have footage or information which could help.”

Liam’s mother Alix Smith made an emotional plea for her son to come home, she said: “We are so worried about him and really anxious to find him and take him home.

“If Liam sees this message I don’t want him to be concerned about being in any trouble.

“I just want to find him.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101.
