A north-east chef who partook of too much Christmas spirit before driving home from work has been banned from the roads.
Andrew West drank more whisky “than he had intended” at the end of his shift at Inverurie Golf Club on Sunday evening.
The 32-year-old was caught by police after a taxi driver spotted him swerving over the road and tailed him back to his flat in Aberdeen.
Officers visited West at home on Gordon Mills Road shortly after and he admitted he had been swerving, but said it was just because he was tired.
But Depute Fiscal Linzi Souter said: “Officers noticed the accused was slurring his words while speaking and they could smell alcohol on him.”
He was found to have 50mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath – more than double the legal limit.
West’s solicitor Stuart Beveridge said: “He accepts full responsibility and appreciates that he should not have been anywhere near his car.”
At Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Monday, Sheriff Graham Buchanan fined West £700 and disqualified him from driving from 12 months.
