The founder of a popular family butcher in Aberdeen who ran his shop for almost three decades has died, aged 75.
Harry Milne, who started H&S Milne and Sons in Bucksburn in 1984, lost his battle with lung cancer on Thursday last week.
Born in Newmachar, Mr Milne spent his childhood in Banff before settling down in Aberdeen.
Mr Milne was well-known in the local community as a “very popular” butcher, who was famed for his sense of humour.
His son Kenny, who joined the family business as an apprentice in 1985, last night paid tribute to his father.
He said: “I believe it was 1984 that he started the butcher.
He had a chip shop in Torry, but missed the meat trade and this one had become available and he took it.
“And he worked all the way until five years ago, when he retired at the age of 70.
“He spent his retirement happily in his greenhouse and in the garden, and brushing up on his general knowledge.
“He was a very popular man behind the counter. He spoke to everybody, remembered everyone’s names, what they bought, and recognised the connections between generations of customers.”
Kenny added: “One of the best things about him was definitely his sense of humour, he loved to have a laugh – he always worked very hard, but he was always up for a laugh.
“He always told us that life is not about what you get out of it, but how you treat other people.”
Mr Milne died last Thursday, after being diagnosed with lung cancer in March last year.
He is survived by wife Sheena, his two sons Kenny and Stephen, his daughter Laura, his 11 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
His funeral is today at 11am at the Aberdeen Crematorium.
