The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for snow and ice across the north and north-east this morning.
Commuters have been advised to leave plenty of time this morning because of potentially difficult travel conditions caused by overnight wintry showers.
The forecaster said some roads and railways are likely to be affected and that people should take extra care on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.
