A north-east woman who has been given a terminal cancer diagnosis will fulfil one of her final wishes by recording a studio album – after securing the backing of an Aberdeenshire businessman who was amazed by her positive attitude.
Rig Deluge owner, Ian Garden, has provided full financial backing to the project to get singer Jenna Cameron behind a microphone after he was “blown away” by her outlook on life when he first met her earlier this year.
The 29-year-old mum-of-two fought the disease at the age of 10 and survived despite doctors warning she only had weeks to live.
But the liver cancer she conquered in her childhood has returned, triggered by her first pregnancy and undetected until the second.
Doctors have now told the Aberdeen woman that she has only months left.
Mr Garden met Mrs Cameron and her family at Christmas after organising a hill walk to raise money for her and another family.
He said: “I was just blown away and inspired with Jenna’s attitude towards a terminal diagnosis for the second time in her life.
“When I asked her what would make her happy, and she said getting back into a recording studio, it gave me the idea to pull two mind sets together.”
The music and songs have been written by Steven Boyd, who was a friend of Mr Garden, but tragically took his own life in 2006.
Mr Garden said: “Steve was a good pal and I tried very hard to help him get recognised, but his own thought process towards life made it difficult for himself to focus at times.
“He was very talented and, in my opinion, had a lot to live for – but negativity took over.
“Jenna has no choice but to face her diagnosis head on with a strong will to live.
“If we can bring these two mind sets together we can make for positive outcomes.”
Already working on the third album track, the musicians have been recording one song a week at the RSD studios in Turriff.
Mr Garden is hopeful that once completed they will take the songs onto the stage and host an evening of song and speech to tell both Mrs Cameron and Mr Boyd’s stories.
He added: “All funds raised will be put to good use in the battles against cancer and mental health.
“Two different individuals make this project one that will open up the debate on how we translate the meaning of life and what it means to each and every one of us.”
