An Aberdeen grandmother has celebrated 26 years of volunteering in the charity café within Aberdeen Sheriff Court.

Betty Forbes is the last of “the original gang” who began serving solicitors and crown witnesses at the small café inside the court building in 1993.

When the former hairdresser first started at the court’s café, it raised money for the Women’s Royal Voluntary Service (WRVS).

But for a number of years now the café has served to generate funds for the Anthony Nolan Trust, an organisation that helps people with blood cancer.

For much of her more than two decades of service, Mrs Forbes volunteered for around four hours a day, once a week, but now volunteers her time once every fortnight.

She said: “I love volunteering here, because I love speaking to people.

“It’s a very good cause  and they do a lot of good work so I’m happy to help.

“The solicitors here really appreciate the café. They’re always very good to us and tell us how grateful they are, especially when they come in to work having not had breakfast for a rowie and a cup of coffee.”

The café is currently recruiting volunteers to spend three to four hours operating the café each week or fortnight.
