A reveller has been fined £1,000 after getting drunk at a beer event in Aberdeen and attacking a security guard.
Michael Sim was given a friend’s spare ticket to a Brewdog gathering at the AECC on Saturday, April 6.
The event is held annually by the firm to update shareholders and offer them a large range of drinks and live music.
But Sim, a maintenance technician, said he “didn’t know what to expect” and quickly became inebriated.
Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard yesterday that he became aggressive and abusive, swearing, using a homophobic slur and spitting.
The 29-year-old assaulted a security guard and also made threats of violence against police officers who arrived on the scene – and also butted a police van.
Fiscal depute Lynne Macvicor said: “At 9.45pm the complainant and a colleague approached the accused, and he became verbally abusive.
“He maintained his aggressive manner, shouting and swearing phrases such as ‘I know where you live’.”
Sim admitted the attack and a charge of acting in a threatening or abusive manner.
His solicitor, Gregor Kelly, said: “He is mortified by his disgusting behaviour.
“He was at the Brewdog event as he got a spare ticket from a friend and didn’t know what to expect.”
Sheriff Graeme Napier said: “That doesn’t mean he had to drink all of the products.”
Mr Kelly added: “Some of the beers were extremely strong – seven, eight or nine per cent – but that’s no excuse.
“He quaffed it and has very little recollection.”
Sheriff Napier branded Sim’s actions “disgraceful” and told him he had got himself into a “ridiculous condition”.
