An Aberdeen man has admitted carrying out a sexual assault on a young woman at a city centre bus stop.
Matthew Wood appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday, following the incident outside the Union Street Sainsbury’s supermarket on Tuesday, February 19.
The 26-year-old admitted putting his arms around the woman, before groping and inappropriately touching her as she tried to get on a bus.
His solicitor, Bruce Macdonald, said: “Mr Wood was walking down Union Street and chanced upon a group of young people at a bus stop.
“He engaged with them for some time, with banter going back and forth.
“At some point the bus came along and the young lady in the queue was seen entering the bus.
“Mr Wood, on an impulse, held his arms around her and carried out the act.”
Mr Macdonald said it was a “very unpleasant experience” for the woman, while Sheriff Robert Vaughan branded Wood’s actions “very foolish”.
Wood, of Regent Court, was given three years of social work supervision.
He was also ordered to participate in a programme designed to rehabilitate sex offenders.
