ScotRail has confirmed its left luggage store in Aberdeen will close next month.
The facility, outside the main train station and Union Square, holds belongings for visitors to Aberdeen seeking to explore the city for the day without heavy bags.
Lack of demand has been blamed for its impending closure, and the facility has been described as “unsustainable” as part of ScotRail’s future plans.
The facility will close its doors on October 12.
However, ScotRail bosses have outlined plans to convert the space and create a new retailing opportunity that could provide the same service.
The announcement comes as part of Aberdeen station’s multi-million pound redevelopment.
Last year it was announced that £2.5million would be pledged to improving the train station in Aberdeen.
Plans to offer cycle hire facilities, revamp the entrances and Station Square and create more retail units are all in the works.
In addition, Abellio applied to Aberdeen City Council last June change the use of the existing ticket office and first-class lounge and restore the north entrance pavilion, the main access point from Guild Street, and potentially create new shops and restaurants.
A ScotRail spokesman vowed to explore options to allow the left luggage facility to be included in the plans.
He said: “We want to provide the best possible service for our customers both on our trains, and at our stations.
“As part of the Aberdeen station redevelopment we will explore the possibility of working with a retailer to provide a left luggage facility.”
