The Conservatives and the SNP have triumphed in an Aberdeen City Council by-election.
Scottish Conservative candidate Sarah Cross had the most votes with 1,857, closely followed by the SNP’s Jessica Mennie with 1,797.
Voters in Bridge of Don went to the polls yesterday to elect two new councillors for the area.
The by-election was called following the death of the SNP’s Sandy Stuart and the resignation of Conservative Brett Hunt.
Conservative Sarah Cross said: “I have lived in Bridge of Don for 21 years and know the area very well.
“My priorities will be to listen to the people in Bridge of Don on the issues that matter to them. “
The SNP’s Jessica Mennie said: “I would like to thank everyone for their hard work in team Aberdeen SNP, we have ran a great campaign.
“One of the big things people have been talking to me about is the buses and lack of educational psychologists. I will work to address these.”
The ruling Conservative, Aberdeen Labour and independent administration have just a single member majority.
Had the electorate decided not to vote a Tory or Labour candidate in, it would have put the situation in a flux with the potential of a new administration being formed.
