An Aberdeen community has welcomed Scottish Government plans to ban parking on pavements.
Residents of Garthdee have long complained about problem parkers around the area.
It has often been blamed on students who use residential streets to avoid paying for the Robert Gordon University campus.
However locals are also thought to be behind it.
But earlier this month, the Scottish Parliament passed a bill to implement a nationwide footway parking ban.
Under the rules, delivery vehicles will be exempt for 20 minutes.
Last night, Garthdee Community Council chairman Paul O’Connor said disabled and infirm people, parents with prams and school children were having to cross roads to avoid the parked cars on streets.
He said: “I absolutely welcome this move, it is long overdue and it will make a tremendous difference in our community.
“I think most reasonable people wouldn’t have a problem with it.
“We receive pictures everyday of cars parking up on the pavement and it has been a huge issue for us.
“We already have the city wardens here so hopefully if people start getting fines they will eventually learn not to do it.”
City residents living with vision impairment conditions have welcomed the decision as well.
Mary Rasmussen, of Guide Dogs Aberdeen, said: “I’m hopeful that the bill will change things enormously.”
