‘Cheating’ boyfriend in the dock after getting caught and assaulting woman

Aberdeen Sheriff Court.

A boyfriend who was caught in a “compromising” position with another woman while his partner was in bed has appeared in court in connection with a pair of assaults.

Samuel Benn, 19, admitted carrying out the attacks in the days after the incident at a house in Huntly last September and was sentenced at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday.

Fiscal depute Lynzi Souter said: “The complainer had gone to bed early and left the accused and a female friend in the living room.

“She heard a noise, came back through and found the accused and his friend in a compromising position, shall we say.”

Following an argument, Benn and the woman left the property.

But they returned the next day, also with a male friend in tow, so the teenager could collect his belongings.

Ms Souter said: “This caused a further argument in the kitchen and the complainer called the accused a liar and a cheat.

“The accused pushed the complainer, causing her to bang her head on the door.”

She added that the woman was left with a “noticeable bump” on her head.

The following week, Benn entered into an argument with and butted the same male friend who had helped him collect his belongings.

Solicitor Peter Keene said it had been “quite a long time” since the incident and that his client, of Mortson Road in Elgin, has since matured.

Sheriff Graeme Napier ordered Benn to carry out 155 hours of unpaid work and imposed 18 months of supervision.
