More than 1,000 people descended upon Aberdeen’s Christmas Village yesterday for the city’s annual Festive Fun Day.
It allowed groups who may find it difficult to access the attraction normally to visit it in a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere and enjoy free rides, ice skating and other entertainment.
The day is organised by Aberdeen Inspired and supported by Codona’s and Aberdeen City Council and is now in it’s fifth year.
Children from more than 20 local primary and secondary schools additional support needs bases all took part.
The youngsters were joined by Syrian refugee families who had been invited through Action for Children, along with members of more than thirty community groups.
Adrian Watson, chief executive of Aberdeen Inspired, said: “We have a lot of fun going on here, lots of school kids from various backgrounds all descending on our Christmas markets.
“We are very proud to cater for that with our partners at the city council and Codona’s.
“It is a wonderful day that makes our city centre that little bit warmer.
“There is no doubt that the Christmas village coming in here is a wonderful attraction for businesses.”
Donations of water and snacks for children were provided by CFINE, while SHMU provided a disco and DJs over the course of the day.
Council co-leader Douglas Lumsden said: “I think it is great we can do this for the people of Aberdeen who might not have the chance to come here and experience the Christmas market otherwise.
“I think it sends a message that Aberdeen is a very inclusive place that everyone can come and enjoy.
“It really is the most wonderful time of the year.”
Speaking during the event, Gavin Mackay, a teacher at Walker Road School, said: “The children have been buzzing all week for it and to see them now is just electric.
“They have been very lucky to get an opportunity like this.”
