An Aberdeen church is edging closer to building a new community centre after raising more half a million pounds in just eight months.
Seaton Community Church Group bought land on School Road for £1 in a community asset transfer three years ago.
Over the last eight months, the group has raised more than £500,000 through various fundraisers and donations from benefactors, including churches across the city and shire
The group is now working tirelessly to create the centre, with the majority of the project being carried out by a dedicated team of volunteers. Professionals are being drafted in for the specialist work.
Once complete, it is visualised the former Aberdeen City Council depot will be used for a variety of activities for the Seaton community.
Pastor Barry Douglas said: “This is a fantastic community and it is great that we are able to give back to it.
“All this wouldn’t be possible without the hard work from all the dedicated volunteers who have tirelessly worked to see this project come together.
“The new facility will have a purpose-built kitchen to cater for the groups hot lunch program that gives children in need, a hot meal during the year.”
There will also be support groups, events organised in partnership with the local school and a weekly church service.
Local councillor Alex McLellan praised the efforts of the group, and said: “It is incredible work to have raised such a large amount of funds and I am glad they are in a position whereby the building will be watertight.
“I look forward to seeing the project develop, I am sure it will be a real asset to the community.”
