Local pupils have won the opening round of a national debating tournament.
Four local schools are among the 32 teams from across Scotland to get through to the second stage of the Law Society of Scotland’s national debating tournament.
They successfully put forward their argument to the motion “This House would introduce compulsory National Civic Service for all 15 and 16 year olds.”
Simi Ogedengbe and Rachel Gallagher represented Albyn School and Josei McGarvey and Yasmin Shiels represented Banchory Academy.
Kabelo Kepadisa and Amelia Patterson meanwhile took part on behalf of Meldrum Academy, with St Margaret’s School for Girls pupils Liberty Mountain and Eleanor Burnett-Stuart also involved.
The second round heats will take place in January with the semi-finals scheduled for early spring and the grand final in June. The top prize is £1,000 and educational books.
