A global subsea specialist has donated £10,ooo to Aberdeen charities.

Subsea 7 decided to make donations to local charities instead of spending money on internal Christmas costs and gifts – allocating £5,000 each to CFine and Social Bite.

CFine works to alleviate poverty by running a foodbank and pantry where families can pick up essentials.

Chief executive Dave Simmers, said: “We are deeply passionate about helping the most vulnerable people in our community.

“This donation will help us to offer a range of healthy food at our newly-established family-oriented Best Start and Smile Pantry, and CFine Community Food Pantry.”

Social Bite, which aims to end homelessness, will use the donation to provide free food in the coming weeks.

Jane Bruce, chief executive in Scotland, said:  “This donation will make a huge difference to our work, from providing free food over the festive season in Aberdeen and well into next year, as well as extending our reach at suppers events and growing our employment programme.

“We couldn’t be more grateful for the support.”

Jonathan Tame, Subsea 7 UK & Canada vice president, Jonathan Tame, said: “Sadly homelessness and food poverty is a growing concern everywhere, including Aberdeen.

“We hope these donations can continue that aim by offering support to vulnerable people experiencing hardship this winter.”
