A trial date has been set for a Scottish rugby international accused of speeding on an Aberdeenshire country road.

D’Arcy Rae, who also plays for the Glasgow Warriors, appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court, having to attend a previous court date earlier this month.

The 24-year-old is facing a charge of driving a car dangerously and at a grossly excessive speed on March 31 on the B979 Netherly Road in Stonehaven.

It is alleged Rae, who has played 69 times for Glasgow since his 2015 debut, drove on the same stretch of road at 111mph without “consideration of obvious potential dangers”.

The speed limit on the stretch, between Stonehaven and Peterculter, is 60mph.

Rae, whose address was given as Millhouse Drive in Glasgow, pleaded not guilty by letter in August.

Solicitor Debbie Ginniver told the court Rae could not attend the pre-trial hearing due to the medication he had been taking from a surgery he had undergone the previous week.

Rae had made his debut for Scotland only a month before, in the Six Nations defeat to Ireland at Murrayfield.

The Glasgow Warriors tighthead prop has been capped once for the national side.

Sheriff David Hall set a trial date for April next year.
