‘Busiest Christmas Day ever’ ahead for Aberdeen airport with passenger numbers expected to double year-on-year

Staff at Aberdeen International Airport are preparing for what is expected to be “one of the busiest Christmas Days ever”.

Around 1,000 passengers are expected to travel through the city’s airport tomorrow, with 70 staff working at the terminal throughout the day.

That would be more than double the number of people who flew into Aberdeen last year.

Airport workers are preparing for seven incoming flights into the north-east for the big day – while six will take passengers off, potentially for some winter sun.

Airside operations manager Robert Paterson said: “This will be one of the busiest Christmas Days ever at Aberdeen International Airport.

“Airside operations and our partners will be on hand as usual to ensure a great travel experience for passengers as they pass through the airport.”

Bosses have drafted in help from external companies to deal with the busy day of both domestic and international traffic, and have promised that passengers will experience no different level of service from any other day they travel through the airport.

Terminal operations manager Kevin Douglas added: “We will have more than 70 staff working throughout Christmas Day to help our passengers.

“This includes security, baggage handlers, special assistance, fire service and catering.

“We are delighted that we are able to help passengers in the north-east and across Scotland to be with loved ones at Christmas.”
