A pensioner will go on trial accused of seriously injuring an 81-year-old by driving carelessly on a busy Aberdeen road.
Ella Irvine, also known as Ella Paterson, pled not guilty to a careless driving charge when she appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday.
It is alleged that the 77-year-old drove her blue Ford car without “due care and attention or without reasonable considerations for other persons using the road” when she was travelling along Inverurie Road in Bucksburn on August 22, 2018.
Prosecutors claim she failed to maintain a proper lookout for other road users and “did cause her vehicle to collide with Elizabeth Massie”.
According to the court papers, Ms Massie “sustained serious injuries”.
Police and paramedics were made aware of the incident, near the Bucksburn roundabout, shortly after 1.30pm on the date in question.
Eyewitnesses had reported seeing a woman receiving medical attention at the scene, and police later confirmed the woman had been taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
The accused, appearing with a crutch yesterday, denied the charges against her and will go on trial on January 24.
The court heard that a broken lift had meant that the case was previously delayed, due to the accused being unable to use the staircase.
Sheriff Graeme Napier said he hoped the case could be “given some priority” when it next calls.
