An Aberdeen cafe is facing a sizeable repair bill after thieves smashed their way in – and made off with £5.
Food Story, a vegetarian and vegan cafe on Thistle Street, was broken into in the early hours of Thursday. It was the second time the food outlet has been targeted in less than a year.
The previous break-in at the cafe resulted in a window being smashed and a tip jar being stolen.
Police were called to the eatery again at around 4am on Thursday, and owners now anticipate they are facing a £600-£650 bill to have a door replaced.
Manager Phoebe Lyle said: “They only got £5 worth of five pence coins and a key fob.
“There was glass everywhere when the police came.
“It seemed very opportunistic.
“The last time we had a break-in they stole our tips, but our manager Emma Hietanen hid them this time so they couldn’t get them.”
Owner, Sandy McKinnon, told the Evening Express that the repair of the door could cost the business “between £600 and £650”.
A police spokesman confirmed officers were investigating and appealed for anyone with information on the break-in to come forward.
The spokesman added: “Officers attended and inquiries are ongoing to trace those involved.
“Anyone with information should contact police on 101, quoting incident number 0486 of January 2.”
Despite the incident, the cafe remained open for business as usual on Thursday.
