A trainee surgeon who studied in Aberdeen has died in a skiing accident while on a family holiday overseas.
William Reid, 25, fell down a 30ft cliff onto concrete while at the Avoriaz resort in the French Alps on Friday.
It is thought he took a wrong turn when returning to his apartment after lunch.
Originally from Edinburgh, Mr Reid studied at Aberdeen University Medical School and had completed a placement at Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA.
A statement released on behalf of Mr Reid’s family said: “He was an extremely kind and caring son, brother, step-brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and good friend to so many people.
“William will be missed by so many people, he was an exceptional young man.”
A spokesman for Aberdeen University said: “Our deepest condolences go out to all of William’s family and friends during this very sad time.”
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office said it is assisting the family and has been in contact with local authorities.
