Sick thieves who have continued to target an Aberdeen war memorial to steal flowers have been described as “completely deplorable”.
Local politicians have said that the Bridge of Don memorial on Ellon Road is continually having its flowers stolen from the planters alongside it.
Funding for the plants comes from Bridge of Don community council.
Former local councillor Muriel Jaffray said she had reported similar incidents to police several years ago and now believes the thief may be back for more.
She said: “It is bad enough stealing from the living, but to steal from our glorious dead is, to me, a cardinal sin.”
Lord Provost Barney Crockett said: “I think all Aberdonians will think that it is absolutely deplorable for anyone to steal flowers, but particularly from a memorial to the war dead.”
Bridge of Don councillor Alison Alphonse added: “I’m absolutely disgusted by this behaviour.”
She added that the thief should be “utterly ashamed”.
