A housing service, which supports people at risk of homelessness in Aberdeen, has been praised by inspectors.

Penumbra Central Aberdeen Supported Living Service, based at Papermill Gardens in the city, received an unannounced visit from the Care Inspectorate in July.

The service was assessed for its quality of care and support, and quality of management and leadership.

In a report of the inspection published yesterday, it was awarded ‘very good’ in both categories.

Prior to the visit, the inspectorate sent questionnaires to Penumbra to distribute to a representative sample of people using the service.

Comments were widely positive, including: “There’s nothing that I can think of that could be improved, the service is excellent,” and “I am really pleased with the support I receive, it really couldn’t be any better.”

The report said the service operated to a “very good standard” and was “recovery-focused and person-centred.”

Staff were said to be very approachable and service users were able to rely on support 24 hours a day.

It added: “People who use the service should have confidence in staff because they are trained, competent and skilled.

“People told us that they were supported by staff who knew them well, and that they felt staff were appropriately trained to support their specific needs.”
