A teenage saxophonist from Aberdeen has joined other Scottish youngsters in creating a piece of music with a famous American composer over the internet.
The Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) annual work experience programme looked unlikely to go ahead due to Covid-19, but the organisation quickly adapted and ensured the experience could be carried out online.
Over eight weeks, 22 young musicians have been working with American composer Nathan Hall to create music.
The result of their collaborative work is a composition called Going Places, which premieres at 7pm today on the RSNO’s YouTube and Facebook channels.
As well as composing music, the youngsters had the opportunity to gain experience in marketing and press activity, working on their own social media and marketing campaigns with the support of RSNO staff.
Aberdeen 18-year-old, Emily Manson, took part and said it was a “really fun” experience.
She said: “It’s a great feeling to know that we have created something that can be played by families around Scotland, and I especially hope people in Aberdeen will take part and enjoy it.
“The creative experience has allowed me to meet new people from all over Scotland and create music with them, as well as work with an international composer.
“It has given me a different challenge during lockdown and I have had the opportunity to try things I have never done before.”
